NBC Renews ‘Chicago Fire,’ ‘Chicago P.D.’

NBC has renewed hit procedurals “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago P.D.” for season five and season four, respectively, the network announced Monday night.

The announcement comes on the heels of NBC’s season two renewal for freshman hit “Blindspot,” which has been one of the few success stories of the fall and is the first new show to receive a second season pickup.

NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt announced the news at a Chicago press event for the two shows and their upcoming spinoff, “Chicago Med,” which premieres on Nov. 17.

“This is a great city full of culture and it’s a city full of heroes. Hopefully, we’re depicting them properly in these series. We couldn’t be more proud as a network to have these three shows,” Greenblatt said.

All three series are executive produced by Dick Wolf, who has had plenty of success in establishing highly-rated TV franchises, thanks to his lucrative “Law and Order” empire, which was also established at NBC.

“Fire” and “P.D.” have been solid ratings performers for NBC this season, so the news comes as little surprise — although the fate of Wolf’s remaining “Law and Order” series, “SVU,” has yet to be decided.

NBC Renews ‘The Blacklist,’ ‘Grimm,’ ‘Chicago Fire,’ ‘Chicago P.D.’ & ‘SVU’
Post Categories: Chicago Fire, News, Projects

NBC has renewed five of its dramas for the 2015-16 season, the net announced Thursday.

“The Blacklist” (season 3), “Chicago Fire” (season 4), “Chicago P.D.” (season 3), “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (season 17) and “Grimm” (season 5) will all be returning with new seasons.

“The creative vision of the executive producers who’ve guided these outstanding dramas has been nothing short of incredible,” said Jennifer Salke, president, NBC Entertainment. “We’re highly appreciative of the passion they bring to their shows at every step of the creative process and we’re thrilled to reward that dedication with these renewals.”

“The Blacklist,” which garnered a ratings boost from its post-Super Bowl episode, moves to its new 9 p.m. Thursday timeslot tonight. The James Spader thriller is averaging a 5.1 rating with 17.4 million viewers so far this season, according to the “most current” averages from Nielsen.

“Grimm” has remained a steady performer for the Peacock’s Friday night lineup, pulling in an average 2.1 rating with 7.2 million viewers overall this season.

“Chicago Fire,” “Chicago P.D.” and “Law & Order: SVU” all hail from Dick Wolf. A medical “Chicago” spinoff is set to bow during the current season of “Fire,” airing as episode 19. “SVU” is the longest-running scripted drama on television.

Law & Order: SVU, Chicago Fire & Chicago P.D. Crossover
Post Categories: Chicago Fire, News, Projects

NBC is staging a three-way crossover for Law & Order: SVU, Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D., TVGuide.com has learned.

The episodes, to air Nov. 11 and Nov. 12, will share a story line about a child pornography ring that will begin on Chicago Fire (Tuesday, 10/9c) that then teams the P.D. squad to the New York City-based SVU investigators the following night (9/8c). Then, the SVU team travels to Chicago for the final hour of the event at 10/9c.

“It’s really representative of what we’re finding happening in the country more and more, that these organizations that we want to dismantle move across borders, they move state-to-state, and it takes a lot of people to cut off all the heads on this particular monster,” Sophia Bush told TVGuide.com Monday. “It’s a very personal story for Lindsay because it taps into her family and her childhood in a way that I don’t think the audience will expect.”

Bush’s character, Lindsay, along with Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Voight (Jason Beghe), will appear on SVU. Rollins (Kelli Giddish), Amaro (Danny Pino) and Benson (Mariska Hargitay) will appear on P.D. However, no one from SVU will appear on Fire.

Television and film actors Jesse Spencer and Taylor Kinney, both stars of the hit NBC drama “Chicago Fire,” will lend their heat to the inaugural Great CHICAGO FIRE Festival, the free spectacle of fire on the Chicago River set to take place Saturday, October 4. The Great CHICAGO FIRE Festival, celebrating Chicago’s grit, greatness and renewal following the historic Great CHICAGO FIRE of 1871, is presented by Redmoon with the City of Chicago’sDepartment of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and Chicago Park District. Activity takes place between the State Street and Columbus Drive bridges in the heart of downtown beginning at 8 pm.

Kinney and Spencer will ignite the festivities – literally – as they light one of 15 massive “Fire Cauldrons” that will be lowered from bridges to watercraft waiting on the Chicago River below. From there, an elaborate “Grand Spectacle” performance will unfold as the watercraft then ferry the flames out to three moored platforms, where giant “Fire Sculptures” will be set ablaze, transforming to reveal three different symbolic cores. Some 400 different performers and singers will participate in the event, which culminates with a choreographed fireworks display designed by Las Vegas-based company Pyrotechnico. The Great CHICAGO FIRE Festival is completely free and no tickets are required.

Jesse Spencer: a hero in real life too
Post Categories: News

Jesse Spencer might play a firefighter on TV, but in real life the “Chicago Fire” star is just as heroic!

Over the weekend, the 35-year-old actor was touring the Illinois State Capitol and became trapped in an elevator with his parents and a group of other sightseers, The Chicago Sun-Times reported.

His scripted small screen training came in handy as he helped with the group’s escape plan by opening the elevator’s doors enough to get cell phone reception in order to call 911.

He also reportedly helped keep the group of tourists calm in the tight, small space for almost an hour until help arrived.

“People started to freak out,” Jesse told the Chicago Sun-Times. “It was getting so hot. It’s claustrophobic. One poor girl had a fear of being trapped in elevators.”

When the actor managed to open the door, it calmed the nerves of the trapped crowd.

“Eventually, I managed to get the doors open so we could get air in,” he explained. “It relieved the tension. I took turns getting people that were freaking out over near the door. I didn’t want them sticking their heads out in case the elevator took off again.”

After the incident he thanked his rescuers.

“Thanks Springfield FD saved us from an elevator at the Capitol Building. Stuck for an hour, I muscled the doors open,” the actor wrote on Twitter and also posted a photo of himself and the firefighters.
